Spoken Word Piece #1
by Nicole Terry

the words

resemble poetry
and the poetry
resembles art
or
the art of everything
secretly displayed
in nothing
like SAMO
down in SOHO
“Plush Safe He Think”

Safe flag
they think
in copyrighted Red
White
&
Blues
Nothing’s new in this world
except
graffiti
on paper

the poetry resembles another
though it flows freely into new waves
the heat nurtures the
processed 2-legged meats of this earth
threat of distinction
sophisticated taboos
in the hybrid realm of vapid arrogance
I just want to be me
or maybe
Basquiat
Picasso
   or
Miles Davis
creating notes on thinning air
was it Morrison
that told us we have a right
to freedom from ourselves?

or was that
Kennedy’s last thought
before the shot rang out?
