I had a dream:
little girls and little boys in little masks on electronic playgrounds
playing doctors and marriage workers and holiday virtual games
they call this virtual reality Reality and anything else is insane
one little girl and little boy off to the side in their own world
drawing giant pictures on giant screens
their laughter was like magic and their breathing like phantoms
written encoded on the foreheads of their peers
masks revealed faces of wide-eyed spectators
blind-folded and dressed in golden chains
the King and the Queen stood at the top of the hill
looking out across the kingdoms they killed
no one stood at the bottom in defiance
for no one can see that far to the top of the hill
behind them burned the castle they took years to build
before them opened the doorway to Time’s column
despite all the names and laughter they were strong
encrypted and encoded in the language of the dreamers
