Cerebral Grandiosity
by Nicole Terry
the wind rushes through the leaves
like a blood moon thrusting
the sky into pieces of crimson flesh
i at my window like a bloom
coveting the lust of rubescence
and dusky invisible pearls
dropping to the earth
in dew-lined frozen tears of passion i don’t feel
but breathe in and out
of every pore like a sustained ache
the shadows of my soul
ripple over the walls
screaming and rising—
a forest of frenzy emotions
playing a madman’s game with time and reason
i sit at the end of myself
waiting for the rain
that the moist bellows
promise on the berth of their summer changelings
no new wine to wash away
the throb of this cerebral grandiosity
so i turn my face
to the pith of my pillow
wishing for a dreamless sleep
and a whisper of stillness
over the din of my over-stimulated mind;
envying the moon and the sky
and the wind that never silences
