AMERICA INSTITUTION
by Nicole Terry
the elephant man
a holocaust child
a bleeding nazi
a strait jacket with a (1963) President in it
a woman who doesn’t want to die
a 19 year old boy with his father’s gun who realized too late he made a mistake
an american flag, with an assassin in it
an artist behind bars
madness spreading
dying
an american flag with a klansman in it
a poem aching to be heard
a broken lighthouse and the boat that forgot
rain
tears
and frozen bells
too many words not enough silence
dying
madness
a strait jacket with a (1968) Senator in it
a man killing an elephant
a grown-up in her personal holocaust
a still bleeding nazi
madness
tears
dying
rain
madness
frozen bells
dying
a strait jacket with a black King in it
rain
an american flag with an american flag dying and the voices that follow in it
tears
a strait jacket with a Little Rock Governor being burned by an american flag in it
frozen bells
an american flag with an american in it
madness
or tears
or rain
or dying
or frozen (liberty)
bells
or freedom?
