  A Locked Room
  by Nicole Terry

She says they’re trying to kill her when they stick a needle

      in her arm

She screams burn in hell as they put a pill on her tongue

            and her eyes mean it

She asks god for mercy on her soul when they put her

food tray in front of her

She wishes lightning will strike them all as their voices

trickle over her and her soul means it

She yells help when she has to go to the bathroom

no one comes for a long time

             not the devil, not god,

                   not even me

Because like them, I’m afraid of her too,

but unlike them, I share a locked room.
